Last month, we reported that Porsche was planning to showcase the 918 replacement in concept form soon. Guess we were right, as the carmaker has just taken the wraps off its future hypercar.

The Porsche Mission X marks the 75th anniversary of Porsche sports cars. It was June 8, 1948, when the 356 ‘no. 1’ became the first automobile bearing the Porsche badge to receive its general operating permit.

Oliver Blume, Chairman of Porsche said, “The Porsche Mission X is a technology beacon for the sports car of the future. It picks up the torch of iconic sports cars of decades past: like the 959, the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder before it, the Mission X provides critical impetus for the evolutionary development of future vehicle concepts.”

The Porsche Mission X concept is 4.5 meters long and has a wheelbase of 2.73 meters, which is similar to the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder. It rides on 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch at the rear.

The concept hypercar has vertically stacked LED headlamps with four LED bars forming the light signature. It has flared wheel arches and a teardrop-shaped driver’s cabin wrapped in a glass canopy with Le Mans-style doors inspired by the Porsche 917. The rear features an LED light bar and a large diffuser.

The interior of the ‘Mission X’ concept looks futuristic with its minimalistic dashboard, carbon fibre seats and compact open-top steering wheel.

The Mission X concept is based on a 900 V electric architecture. According to Porsche, if the ‘Mission X’ goes into production, it would be the fastest road-legal vehicle to lap the Nurburgring. The hypercar is expected to have a power-to-weight ratio of 1 PS per kg and a downforce value greater than the current 911 GT3 RS.
