Koenigsegg Gemera’s custom roof box can withstand 186 mph speeds

The Koenigsegg Gemera is the Swedish hypercar maker’s idea of a practical 4-seater, and we quite like it. It also has enough room in the boot for a weekend trip. But for longer trips, owners can check the custom roof box option.

The Gemera’s custom roof box, called Gearbox, is an aerodynamic luggage carrier made from carbon fibre. According to Koenigsegg, it can accommodate four sets of skis, ski boots and ski poles. Alternatively, users can carry two full-size suitcases or four additional carry-ons – totalling up to 8 bags.

Furthermore, the Gearbox is designed to withstand speeds of up to 186 mph. The roof mounts have sensors that limit the Gemera’s top speed when the roof box is installed. The company also claims that the Gearbox has the lowest drag among all roof boxes and amounts to a drag penalty of just 11% on the Gemera.

The Gemera will be available with two engine options. These include a V8 hybrid that makes 2300 hp and 2028 lb-ft of torque and the so-called “Tiny Friendly Giant engine” – an inline 3-cylinder motor paired with a hybrid system.

This video shows why the Gemera is one of the most practical hypercars money can buy. Now, the company is also aiming to set a new speed record for roof box-equipped cars.
