Wrecked Porsche 918 Awaiting Repairs For Sale

A low mileage Porsche 918 Spider with a salvage title is up for auction at Copart.com. This wrecked exotic with an estimated retail value of $1.5 million is currently awaiting repairs.

The Porsche 918 is a rare supercar. Prices for the 918 in the used market are currently in the range of $1-1.5 million depending on the mileage and spec. I am not sure what kind of person would want to buy a wrecked 918 at an auction and then spend millions restoring it. Of course, it’s hard to see a supercar in a state of disrepair, especially a rare beast like the 918.

With a just 92 miles on the odometer, this 918 could have been a very attractive buy. Now though, it needs extensive repairs. The extent of damage is clear from the images posted here. The front subframe is history while front bulkhead lies in bits on the shop floor. Rebuilding the suspension at both ends would require a host of new parts as well. Also, the engine cover, floor pan, front bumper and fenders will have to be replaced altogether.

The 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 seems intact though. That said, the Porsche 918 is a complicated machine, especially with the hybrid system that drives all four wheels. Getting this wrecked Porsche 918 back on the road would require an expert and numerous man hours.
