Watch a Porsche 911 Dakar go all out on Germany’s Autobahn

Few things will put a smile on an auto enthusiast. One of these might be watching a Porsche 911 Dakar go flat out on the Autobahn. Inspired by the 1980’s models that participated in the Dakar Rally, these are nothing but factory modified Porsche 911s with raised suspensions and more power amongst others.

Based on the 911 Carrera GTS, the 911 Dakar comes with a 3.0-litre flat-six engine. This twin-turbocharged unit develops 473 horses. With all-wheel-drive as standard, the car boasts of 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds.

To do justice to the Dakar name, Porsche has increased the ride height of the standard 911 GTS by 2 inches. Porsche has equipped the 911 Dakar with all terrain tires. Meanwhile, the carmaker has tuned the suspension to handle bad roads, dunes, ruts and even rocky trails.

But, as it is ultimately a Porsche, it is meant to go fast. And the chaps at AutoTopNL have gone all out in exploring the top speed on this car. The manufacturers meanwhile claims the car’s top speed to be 149 mph. However as we can see, the car does do a wee bit faster than that.

Porsche 911 Dakar : Availability and Price

The German carmaker has made only 2,500 units of the Porsche 911 Dakar. Porsche is asking a starting price of US$ 223,650 for this limited edition model. However, enthusiasts and collectors will want to get one for themselves as like other limited edition Porsches, they will only appreciate in value over the years.
