Volkswagen ID.R Electric car sets new Goodwood Hillclimb Record
Update:
On Friday, the Volkswagen ID.R electric car set the fastest ever time at the Goodwood hillclimb. But, that was during the practice session. During the final shootout, it went event faster.
The VW ID.R set a new track record of 39.90 seconds. It is the first car to set a sub-40 second time at this famous hillclimb.

The Volkswagen ID.R electric car has destroyed the previous Goodwood hillclimb record during Friday practice.
41.18 seconds! @RomainDumas broke the 20-year old record at the @fosgoodwood in the #IDR. But they are not done yet – stay tuned for more record attempts throughout the weekend. #challengeacceptID pic.twitter.com/OtlTFFj0Bm

Romain Dumas set the fastest time at the Goodwood hillclimb course during Friday practice. Incidentally, it also happened to be the new course record. The VW ID.R set a time of 41.18 seconds, half a second clear of the previous best set by Nick Heidfeld in a McLaren MP4/13 Formula One car back in 1999.
What’s more interesting is that on paper, the VW ID.R is no match for the V10-powered F1 car. The electric car weighs twice as much and has less power. But, the way the electric motors deliver the power is what sets it apart. Besides, the ID.R has all-wheel drive traction thanks to dual electric motors.
The Volkswagen Motorsports team is on a mission. In 2018, the ID.R set a new course record at Pikes Peak. In June this year, the car demolished the Nurburgring lap record set by the NIO EP9.
