VIDEO: 2021 Porsche Panamera laps the Nurburgring in 7 min 29 seconds

Earlier this month, the Porsche Panamera set a new Nurburgring lap record for “executive cars”.

The 2021 Panamera lapped the 21 km circuit in 7 min 29.81 seconds. It beat the previous best time of 7 min 30.11 seconds set by the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S.

At the wheel was German test driver Lars Kern. Back in 2016, Kern had set a lap time of 7 min 38.46 seconds in the previous generation Panamera Turbo. But, back in the day, the track was 200 meter shorter. Still, it shows how quick the new model is.

The record was set on July 24, 2020. The time was 1.49 pm and the outside temperature was 22 degrees Celsius. The track temperature at the time was 34 degrees Celsius. The car was fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires developed especially for the new Panamera. A set of these tires will be offered as an option when the car goes on sale.

The new Panamera will be unveiled later this month.
