Jaguar XJ EV prototype leaked

The secret Jaguar XJ EV prototype leaked for the first time!

Jaguar recently shared images of its electric 4-door GT prototype. Well, it was not the only EV the company had been working on all this while. A leaked image doing the rounds on social media suggests Jaguar had plans for an XJ EV.

This image, which was allegedly taken in 2020, shows an early prototype of the XJ replacement that never made it past the development phase. The Jaguar XJ EV project was internally known as X391 and is said to be based on the MLA IIRC platform.

The XJ EV prototype has a typical Jaguar grille at the front with a pair of headlights on either side. With the bonnet open, you get a good view of the frunk. The side profile of the car reminds us of the Tesla Model S. It has retractable door handles and what appears to be a charging port on the rear quarter panel.

While it is said that the X391 project was shelved, it looks more like a precursor to the 4-door GT prototype that was revealed earlier this week. That being said, the new model is based on the JEA platform (Jaguar Electric Architecture). Reports suggest it will have around 580 hp and more than 700 km range.
