Tesla Model S Plaid laps Laguna Seca faster than a McLaren P1
A Tesla Model S Plaid has just lapped Laguna Seca faster than a McLaren P1 hypercar.
The prototype was driven by Johannes Van Overbeek. It completed the lap of the track in 1 min 30.3 seconds, 0.4 seconds faster than the P1. Last year, the same car had posted a time of 1 min 36.5 seconds.
The Model S Plaid is powered by three electric motors producing around 1100 hp. Tesla claims that it will do 0-60 mph in less than 2 seconds and will reach the quarter mile in under 9 seconds. At the time of the record run, the car was fitted with Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires. No modifications were made to the car, apart from the addition of a sports bucket seat for safety.
Beating a million dollar hypercar is no mean feat considering that the Tesla Model S Plaid is priced from $139,990.
