SCOOP: BMW M4 GT4 Caught Testing
Customer racing teams will soon be able to buy a GT4-spec BMW racer in the form of the BMW M4 GT4. A prototype was recently spotted testing an aggressive aero kit fitted to an M4 GTS. The new model will join the likes of the Aston Martin Vantage GT4 and Porsche Cayman GT4 on the racetrack.
BMW currently offers the M235i Racing to entry-level privateer teams along with the M6 GT3. The new BMW M4 GT4 will slot between these two models.
The M4 GT4 gets upgraded aerodynamics package consisting of a large rear spoiler and an aggressive diffuser at the back to an adjustable front splitter and side skirts. The car is expected to retain carbon fiber bonnet, roof and doors from the GTS along with the turbocharged in-line 6-cylinder engine. It will also get an FIA-spec roll cage, racing suspension and a louder exhaust. That said, peak horsepower will be dictated by GT4 regulations.
While the M4 GT4 will be available as a track-only model, a road-legal version based on it seems plausible. For now though, the GTS remains the range-topping model in the M4 line up.
