RUF R Spyder is what the Porsche 911 Speedster should’ve been
German Porsche specialist Ruf Automobile has revealed its latest creation called Ruf R Spyder. It’s a classic speedster based on a Porsche 911. More specially, the car seems to share its underpinnings with the 911 GT3
2-door speedsters have gained popularity in recent times. The roofless design may not be the most practical, but it looks mighty gorgeous. The Ruf R Spyder features a dual-cockpit design with short wraparound windscreens.
At the front is a familiar bumper borrowed from GT3, while the rear features slim wraparound tail lights with an LED light bar stretching across the rear fascia. The carbon fibre engine cover and ducktail spoiler are unique to the car. The central spine houses an air intake and a chronograph. Also, instead of conventional mirrors, the R Spyder uses a fender-mounted camera.
The Ruf R Spyder is powered by a 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated, flat-6 engine. Now, the company is yet to reveal the detailed specifications. What we do know is that the engine is paired with a proper 6-speed manual gearbox.
According to the company, the engine gets DLC-coated rocker arms and variable intake and exhaust valve timing. On the chassis side, the R Spyder gets lightweight McPherson strut front suspension with a five-link rear setup and ceramic brakes all around.
