Rolls Royce is testing the Wraith Drophead Coupe

Rolls Royce Wraith

Rolls Royce left the world stunned when it launched the all-new Wraith. The gorgeous fastback silhouette and the bold presence of the Rolls Royce badge, the Wraith is the fastest and the most powerful Rolls Royce ever produced. Now, the British luxury marque is preparing a convertible version of the Wraith. It could use the “Drophead Coupe” behind its name and prices of course would be a tad bit higher than the standard car. The automatic roof mechanism will also add to the overall weight of the car.

I am sure Rolls Royce engineers will try to retain the original handling characteristics of the coupe. That said, despite the monumental levels of performance from the V-12 engine, the Rolls Royce Wraith is not a precision tool of some sort. It is still is a Rolls Royce at heart and hence the supple ride and body roll. The Rolls Royce Wraith is a pure, high-performance, luxury grand tourer for the wealthy rich. The introduction of the Drophead Coupe would give customers the option of infinite headroom and wind-in-the-hair motoring.

Rolls Royce top boss has confirmed the Wraith Drophead coupe for 2015, featuring the same powertrain as the fastback coupe. The engine powering the Wraith is a monster. The 6.6-liter V-12 churns out 624 horsepower which is transferred to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Rolls Royce offers numerous customization options for the Wraith with some distinct alloy wheel designs as well. Apart from the standard configurations, customers can also enroll themselves for the bespoke program wherein they can customize their cars to individual tastes.

Other Drophead Coupe models in Rolls Royce’s portfolio include the Phantom Drophead Coupe which comes with a slightly less powerful V-12 engine and sits at the top of the range in the Phantom family. As far as the Wraith Drophead coupe is concerned, we don’t expect much of a change to the exterior design of the car. It will be interesting to see a convertible with a hint of fastback design.

Rolls Royce Wraith Specifications:

  • 6.6 litre, twin turbo-charged V-12
  • 624 hp/ 800 Nm
  • 0-100 kph in 4.6 sec
