Porsche 911 GT3 RS shatters Road America’s production car lap time

Porsche 911 GT3 RS has broken yet another record. Driven by racing driver Dimitri Dimakos, the road-legal car clocked a lap time of 2:13.8 minutes at the Road America. This Porsche 911 GT3 RS now holds the production car record at this track.

The previous record was incidentally held by a Porsche as well. However, the 992 Porsche 911 GT3 RS broke the 991.2 Porsche 911 GT2 RS’ record by almost 2 seconds. The 911 GT2 RS clocked 2:15.1 minutes. Furthermore, the car also beat the earlier generation 911 GT3 RS by a whooping 4.5 seconds at the same track.

Road America track : More Details

Located at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, the Road America track measures 4 miles. There are 14 turns and the track temperature during the attempt was 32 Celsius. The ambient temperature was 24 Celsius. The test car was fitted with a VBOX and the run was validated by Goldcrest Motorsports.

Details of the record breaking 911 GT3 RS

The attempt was done using a customer car. The 2023 make car was delivered just weeks ago. The car was shod in the optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R N0 tires measuring 275/35 ZR20 at the front and 335/30 ZR21 at the rear. Before the track attempt, the car was aligned for the track by an authorized Porsche Center.

The powerhouse of this car is a 4.0-liter flat-six engine producing 518 HP. It sends power via a 7-speed dual clutch PDK gearbox. The GT3 RS also boasts of an aero package that is said to be amongst the most aggressive ones offered on any Porsche. Additionally, the 992 Series also gets a track-focused chassis setup.
