Porsche 911 GT2 RS to return in 2026 with a mild-hybrid powertrain

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is currently the flagship of the 992 generation. That will soon change with the arrival of the 911 GT2 RS. According to reports, Porsche is all set to bring back the legendary badge, however, this time with a mild-hybrid powertrain.

The hybrid tech for the 992-gen 911 GT2 RS is said to be developed by Porsche Motorsport for the 919 Hybrid and 963 LMDh Le Mans racers. It will use 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-6 engine paired with a mild-hybrid system. It is likely to feature a gearbox-mounted electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack positioned behind the seats.

Porsche is also said to be developing a new variable-geometry turbocharger for the GT2 RS. It will be used to generate electric energy under acceleration. With a combined output of around 750 hp, the new 911 GT2 RS will be the most powerful road-going Porsche on sale.

Reports also suggest that the new GT2 RS will weigh about 100 kg more than the GT3 RS. Porsche aims to achieve a 0-62 mph time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 211 mph.

Like its predecessor, the 992-gen 911 GT2 RS will be produced in limited numbers. It is expected to arrive in 2026 with a price tag of more than $300,000.
