Porsche 718 Boxster & Cayman discontinued in Europe
Porsche has discontinued its entry-level models, the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman, in the European market.
According to Motor1, Porsche has decided to phase out its entry-level sports cars in the wake of the EU’s new cybersecurity norms, which will come into effect from July 2024. It is said that both models use an electrical architecture that does not meet the requirements of the new regulations, and upgrading it would not be feasible.
However, Porsche will continue to sell the Cayman GT4 RS and Boxster RS Spyder as both limited edition models are exempt from the rule.
The fourth-generation Boxster and Cayman were introduced in 2016. The 718 range will also be the last ICE-powered version as its replacement will be an EV. The Boxster EV is already under development and is expected to go on sale in 2025.
