Nico Rosberg takes delivery of his Mercedes-AMG One hypercar

Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg recently took delivery of his Mercedes-AMG One hypercar. In his latest video, Nico takes us through the delivery process. He also had a chat with Jochen Hermann, CTO of Mercedes-AMG, who shared some of the many challenges the team faced while developing this car.

Nico Rosberg’s Mercedes-AMG One is finished in Grigio Ferro, a shade of silver from Ferrari’s palette. It’s also the only AMG One with a black three-pointed star on the nose.

The AMG One was designed to be a Formula 1 car for the street. It is powered by the same 1.6-liter, turbocharged V6, which, Nico had in his F1 car back in 2015. The IC engine is paired with two electric motors for a combined output of 1063 hp. Mercedes claims the AMG One will do 0-62 mph in 2.9 seconds and 0-124 mph in 7 seconds.

Just like how a team of engineers and mechanics is required to operate an F1 car, you can’t just fire up the AMG One’s engine and drive off. Mercedes had to develop special software to handle all the ‘system checks’ that would otherwise be done by a team of brainy individuals.

Mercedes faced numerous challenges during the development phase of this car, which is why the project was marred with delays. The battery, for instance, was overheating, and then there was the issue of NVH. In the end, the brilliant minds at Mercedes-AMG managed to build what could be one of the greatest automobiles ever made.

Another ex-Mercedes-AMG F1 driver who has an AMG One is Valtteri Bottas.
