[Update] New Honda Civic Type R Unveiled

Honda Civic Type R has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. The brand new hot hatchback is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged i-VTEC engine producing 310 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The new Civic Type R gets adjustable dampers all around, mechanical limited-slip differential, Brembo brakes, sports seats and an equally sporty interior and exterior styling. The all-new Honda Civic Type R has also been around the Nurburgring in 7 min 50 sec and the following video documents the quick lap completed in a pre-production Type R. It also means that the Honda is 4 sec quicker around the track than the fastest front-wheel drive car- Renault Megane 275 Trophy. Being a pre-production car, it lacked air-conditioning and audio systems along with the front passenger seat that was removed in order to save weight. A roll cage was fitted for safety.

[Update] There’s still time for the Paris Motor Show, when Honda is set to take the wraps off the new Civic Type R. They have already released a few images of the car and while we can imagine how awesome the new hot hatch will be, Honda just teased us yet again. This time in an advertisement they posted on their Youtube channel. The advert also features the new Honda HRV compact SUV and Jazz. You also get a short glimpse of the upcoming Civic Type R. This year, Honda will launch the new Civic Type R in Europe. The car will be presented at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in production spec. The concept Civic Type R, as you know was revealed back in September 2014. So, as the excitement over a stonking grade hot hatchback increases by the day, Honda has teased us with a new set of official images of the production version of the Honda Civic Type R.

Honda, perhaps does not plan to go global with the new Civic Type R. Yes, like the Ford Focus RS, which for the first time will be offered to US customers, it is highly unlikely that Honda would go the same way. That said, the Civic Type R will feature a 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine boosted with a turbocharger. Peak output could top 300 odd horsepower and slotting just under the uber-hot hatchbacks like the VW Golf R and the new Focus RS.
