Mid-engined Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 heads to the Nurburgring for testing

Chevrolet is currently busy working on the next-generation Corvette ZR1. Until recently, prototypes were being put through their paces on US roads. Now though, the ZR1 has been spotted at the Nurburgring in Germany, marking the beginning of the next phase of development.

As you can see, the latest prototype sports a camouflage wrap instead of the thick black camouflage seen on earlier test mules. This also gives us a chance to look at the pre-production bodywork.

At the front, the Corvette ZR1 has a more pronounced splitter that wraps around the bumper. The front fenders also look a tad wider than the standard car. There are additional vents on the rear fenders as well. But the most prominent feature has to be the massive rear wing.

While technical details of the C8 Corvette ZR1 are still under wraps, reports suggest that the hot new ‘Vette could use the same 5.5-liter V8 engine from the Corvette Z06. However, Chevy could bolt on a pair of turbochargers to raise the output from 670 hp to 850 hp.
