Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 takes aim at the Bentayga & Cullinan
Mercedes-Benz is upping its luxury game and taking the fight straight to the Bentley Bentayga and Rolls Royce Cullinan.
The Mercedes-Maybach GLS had leaked just a few hours ahead of the official reveal. However, we now have all the details about the latest luxobarge from Stuttgart.
The Maybach GLS is essentially the ultimate version of the GLS SUV. It’s a chrome fest on the exterior. It has a chrome grille that’s typical of Maybach models. The front bumper has a shiny mesh with chrome inserts on either side and a chrome skid plate. There’s more chrome around the windows and on the rocker panels, while at the rear, you get some more chrome trim and a shiny skid plate. And yes, you can get the optional 23-inch wheels in chrome as well.
The regular GLS is the S-Class of SUVs. The Maybach version takes luxury to the next level. It is available in 4 or 5-seat configurations. It has reclining rear seats with massage function, folding tables, champagne flutes and a refrigerator.
The Maybach GLS is powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 550 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque. EQ Boost provides an extra 21 hp and 184 lb-ft for a short duration. The motor is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system. Mercedes claims that the SUV will do 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds, while top speed is limited to 130 mph or 155 mph depending on which side of the pond you live.
We still don’t know much it will cost when it arrives in US showrooms the latter part of next year. However, we do know that it will be locking horns with some of the best luxury SUVs in the business.
