Mercedes-AMG Mythos PureSpeed is a limited edition SL speedster
Mercedes-AMG Mythos PureSpeed is the first model under its highly-exclusive Mythos series. It was just revealed to the public during an event held in Monaco.
Mercedes-Benz plans to build limited edition specials under the Mythos sub-brand. The PureSpeed certainly seems like a good start. It is based on the new SL roadster, which has been transformed into a stunning speedster. Only 250 units will be built.
The Mercedes-AMG Mythos PureSpeed, although currently in concept form, looks production ready. The striking design appears to be inspired by the AMG-One hypercar. It has a low slung front end with a pronounced “shark nose”. There are typical speedster-style roll hoops at the rear, while the rear features sleek horizontal taillights, and an aggressive diffuser with quad exhausts. It even gets an Formula 1-like halo over the cockpit.
Michael Schiebe, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG and Head of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Mercedes-Maybach divisions, said, “The Concept Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed offers a glimpse of what is probably the most direct way to experience performance and driving pleasure. Radically open, neither a roof nor the windscreen separate the two passengers from the elements. You can experience light, air and passion unfiltered with all your senses. As the concept of our first Mythos vehicle, it embodies the highest level of exclusivity. Design elements such as the HALO also create a Formula 1 feeling. There is therefore no better place for its world premiere than Monaco.”
Mercedes-AMG hasn’t revealed any technical details of the Mythos PureSpeed. However, given the fact that it is based on the SL roadster, we can expect it to be powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.
The production version of the Mercedes-AMG Mythos PureSpeed will debut next year.
