Exclusive! McLaren W1 leaked ahead of its official debut

The McLaren W1, the brand’s next-generation hypercar, will be unveiled on October 6. We recently shared a design sketch of the upcoming model. It didn’t reveal much, except for its silhouette and LED light signature. Here’s the first leaked image of the actual car, and we would love to know your thoughts about it.

Our first impressions of the McLaren W1’s design aren’t positive, to be honest. It doesn’t have the pure look of the P1. It’s a mix of sharp angles and curves.

The front end has a more angular design with a Ferrari SF90-inspired headlamp graphic. Familiar McLaren design traits can be found on the sides. There’s a large vent shaped like the McLaren logo and a floating barge board similar to a Formula 1 car just behind the front wheel. Also, note that it has McLaren F1-like windows that don’t roll down fully.

The interior, though, is exactly what you’d expect to see in a McLaren. It features a slim dashboard with a touchscreen in the centre, a digital instrument cluster, and an oddly-shaped steering wheel. The cabin looks pretty minimalistic, with most functions integrated into the touchscreen. Also, note that the seats are fixed in place, which means the driver can adjust the pedal box as per his preference.

We aren’t convinced with the new W1’s design looking at this leaked image. Perhaps this isn’t the best angle. We hope it looks better in person, though.

Do you think it looks like a worthy successor to the P1? Let us know in the comments.
