McLaren has teased a new model for a reveal on December 8, which we believe is the 720S Spider. According to the brand, the new supercar will “raise the roof” at its reveal next month, where “more light will be cast” on it.
How do we know it’s the 720S Spider?
According to a recent leak by a McLaren Talk forum member and McLaren owner, the sales of the 720S Spider will start early next year which will be exactly two years since the launch of the coupe. More recently we encountered leaked patent images of the car suggesting its near future reveal.
The 720S Spider will be McLaren’s second new model under the company’s Track25 Business plan, following the reveal of the Speedtail last month. McLaren didn’t provide any info with the teaser but we know a few things about the Super Series convertible thanks to the aforementioned leaked patent drawings. First up, the 720S Spider is likely to feature a folding hard top rather than a removable panel or soft top. The teaser video uploaded by McLaren further confirms this theory as you can see what definitely looks like a hard top on the car. We also learned earlier that the glass roof and the glass C-pillar of the coupe will be offered as an option on the 720S Spider.
If there would be any changes to the powertrain remains to be seen to compensate for the added weight of the roof system. The 720S coupe features twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 good for 710 hp. Thanks to it, the 720S is one of the most thrilling machines currently available on the market. With the Spider coming, we only expect it to turn that up even further.
