McLaren 765LT runs Sub-10 Sec Quarter Mile on the Street

Brooks from Dragtimes is still waiting to take delivery of his McLaren 765LT. Luckily a friend was kind enough to offer him a ride in his new car. Naturally, it was time to get all the equipment out.

The McLaren 765LT is the track-focused version of the 720S. To make it quicker, the boffins from Woking reduced the weigh by 80 kg and added more power. McLaren claims that with all the weight reduction, the car weighs 1229 kg. However, the car tested by Brooks weighed 1383 kg.

Powering the 765LT is a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 that puts out 755 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. As per the brochure, the 765LT does 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds and 0-124 mph in 7.2 seconds.

With the official figures out of the way, let’s now look at how the car performed out on the street.

On the first run, the car managed to hit 40 mph in 2.9 seconds. 60-130 mph was dispatched in 5.2 seconds. More importantly, the quarter mile came up in 9.94 seconds @ 146.36 mph. On the second run, the car was even quicker. It completed the quarter mile in 9.88 seconds @ 146.20 mph.

It must be noted that the tests were conducted on the street and the car was fitted with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres. On a prepped drag strip and stickier rubber, the 765LT could go even quicker.
