Maserati to retire its V8 engine with two special edition models

Maserati has said that it will phase out its V8 engine by 2024. The 8-cylinder powertrain will make its final appearance on two special editions before being relegated to the history books.

According to Road & Track, the thundering V8 will feature one last time in the Ghibli 334 Ultima and Levante V8 Ultima. The official public debut will be held during the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.

At present, Maserati offers V8 versions of the Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans and the Levante SUV. The GranTurismo used to be powered by a V8 at one time. However, it has been replaced with a twin-turbo V6. Similarly, the MC20 also features a V6 powertrain.

Like most automakers, Maserati will also transition into an EV-only brand. The company says it will have a 100% electric portfolio by 2030.
