Lexus LFR V8 supercar (LFA successor) spied testing in Japan

Lexus is working on a new supercar that is said to be the spiritual successor to the legendary Lexus LFA. It will be based on the Lexus GT3, and the latest spy images coming out of Japan confirm the same.

Dubbed the Lexus LFR, the new supercar was recently spotted testing at a racetrack in Japan. Still in its prototype phase, the car was wrapped in camouflage, but you could make out the overall shape, which looks quite similar to the GT3.

The Lexus LFR has a long hood, a coupe-like roofline and a short tail section. It has a pretty standard trapezoidal air dam at the front with slim LED headlamps, extractor vents on the front fenders and a set of ducts on the rear bumper. If you look closely, the car also has a subtle ducktail.

Unfortunately, the LFA successor won’t feature the glorious 4.8-liter V10 engine. Instead, the new model is likely to be powered by a twin-turbo V8 with an estimated output of around 650-800 hp.

The new Lexus LFR will be Japan’s answer to some of the latest supercars from Europe. These include the upcoming Lamborghini Temerario, Mercedes-AMG GT, Aston Martin Vantage and the Ferrari 296 GTB.
