Lamborghini’s first EV delayed by a year; Launch pushed to 2029
Lamborghini has postponed the launch of its first electric vehicle by a year. The Italian supercar maker believes the market isn’t yet ready for pure electric luxury sports cars. The company had initially planned to debut its first EV in 2028.
Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann said, “We do not think 2029 is late to have an electric car. We do not think, in our segment, the market will be ready in 2025 or 2026.”
Winkelmann added that the company is in no hurry to push for electrification and is waiting for a clearer regulatory outlook in the European Union.
Lamborghini’s first EV will be based on the Lanzador concept that was showcased in 2023. It will be a 4-seat grand tourer. Reports suggest that it could share its underpinnings with other VW Group models. The electric motors would also be sourced from Volkswagen. That being said, Lamborghini will be developing technologies that will set its EVs apart from the competition.
Speaking of competition, Ferrari is gearing up to debut its first EV next year.
