Lamborghini Urus to be the Fastest SUV to lap the Nurburgring

After the recent update on the launch date, we have more exciting news on the upcoming Lamborghini SUV. The Urus, slated to be launched on December 4 will be the fastest SUV on the Nurburgring. It will be faster than Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the Range Rover Sport SVR.

Lamborghini has been relatively cautious to talk about the car’s performance, unit recently. Maurizio Reggiani, the company’s R&D boss in a conversation with Motor Authority claimed that the SUV will not only eclipse a 300 km/h (186 mph) top speed – a territory usually reserved for supercars, but the will also be the fastest car on the Nurburgring.

“Our SUV will achieve more than 300 km/h (186 mph) because it’s a Lamborghini. It’s our DNA,” he said.(We will) achieve the best lap time for an SUV on Nordschleife—this is a faster SUV.”

Considering that the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S did a 7 min 59 sec lap of the circuit, if Lamborghini is able to manage an even faster lap time, then it would put the SUV into the league of the very best sports cars.

With a 4.0-liter V8 shared with the new Cayenne but dialed up to 650 hp, it might not be that difficult. The Urus will also take the crown from Bentley’s Bentayga as the world’s most powerful production SUV. Also, expect the Urus to break the sub-4 sec 0-60 mph time. The challenge might get even easier with Lamborghini’s carbon fibre and light weight aluminium construction resulting in lesser weight than any of the other super SUVs.

We won’t have to wait too long to find out the final numbers since the reveal is less than two months away. The highly anticipated reveal will be held at Lamborghini’s factory in Sant’Agata where the company will also showcase a one-off hypercar to potential customers.
