Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut’s high-speed run ends in smoke and flames

Update:

We have just received a clarification from Koenigsegg stating that smoke and flames were observed coming from the exhaust of the Jesko Absolut. While the engine issue is still being identified, it is not related to the hydraulics.

Official statement:

“The Jesko did not catch fire, but had smoke and some flames coming out of the exhaust pipe due to an yet not identified engine issue. The car is neither burnt or damaged apart from having an engine issue. This issue is not at all related with the hydraulic issue in Greece.”

Koenigsegg still doesn’t seem to have rectified the issue that was causing the Jesko fires. A Jesko Attack burned to the ground in July due to what appeared to be a hydraulics issue. Now, a Jesko Absolut suffered an engine fire during a high-speed run.

The Jesko Absolut was part of the annual Supercar Owners Circle event. Videos posted on social media show the hypercar driving down a runway when the engine starts smoking heavily. The driver pulls over, only to find the engine on fire. It seems the driver was able to put out the flame just in time, however, the exact extent of the damage is still unclear.

Following the incident in Greece, Koenigsegg issued a Do-not-drive order for all Jesko owners. All cars were inspected for defects in the installation of hydraulic hoses. A software update was also rolled out that could sense a pressure drop or leak and shut down the hydraulic system. Perhaps the same software saved this Jesko Absolut from turning into a crisp.
