Genesis GMR-001 Le Mans Hypercar revealed; To race in WEC & IMSA

Hyundai is entering the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar.

Genesis’ new Le Mans hypercar campaign will be spearheaded by the Genesis Magma Racing team with Cyril Abiteboul as team principal, while ex-Audi driver Andre Lotterer and Luis ‘Pipo’ Derani have been named as the development and racing drivers.

Coming to the car itself, the GMR-001 Hypercar will be built to LMDh specifications and will race in the top class of IMSA and WEC. Genesis has released images of the prototype. It is based on an Oreca chassis.

While the GMR-001 Hypercar looks like a typical Le Mans prototype, it has a few unique design details, such as stacked headlights with signature LED lighting at the front and dual LED strips at the back. It has a massive top-mounted rear wing with large end plates and a shark fin.
