Ford Mustang GTD to make its European debut at Le Mans

The Ford Mustang GTD will make its European debut in June. The car will be presented on the sidelines of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Ford is also keen to make headlines with a Nurburgring hot lap later this year. According to the company, the Mustang GTD will be aiming to complete a lap of the circuit in under 7 minutes.

Greg Goodall, Chief Program Engineer for the Mustang GTD, recently stated that the car has been extensively tested at the Virginia International Raceway and Sebring in preparation for its Nurburgring run.

Things are moving quickly at Ford as the Mustang GTD has already been spotted testing at the ‘Ring.

The GTD is a track-focused version of the Mustang, that rivals the Porsche 911 GT3. It is powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine that makes more than 800 hp. The engine revs to 7500 rpm and is mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Ford has also revealed that it has so far received over 7500 applications from prospective customers from North American alone.
