Ford Mustang GTD laps the Nurburgring in 6 min 57 seconds
The Ford Mustang GTD has become the first American car to lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife in under 7 minutes.
The Mustang GTD completed a lap of “The Green Hell” in 6 min 57.685 seconds with Dirk Muller at the wheel. It’s the fifth fastest time by a stock production car and the Mustang GTD is the sixth vehicle in its class to set a sub-7 min lap time.
The Mustang GTD is the most powerful Mustang ever made. It uses a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 that delivers 815 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Mustang GTD gets a semi-active suspension, with a pushrod setup at the front and a transaxle at the back. The air scoops on the sides are there to cool the transaxle and hydraulics. It also gets a bespoke aero package, including hydraulically controlled front flaps and an active rear spoiler.
