Ford Mustang GTD debuts with over 800 hp and a $300,000 price tag

Ford has finally revealed its wildest Mustang ever. The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is America’s answer to the Porsche 911 GT3 and comes equipped with tech never before seen on a pony car.

The Mustang GTD is named after the IMSA GTD racing class. So, as Ford CEO Jim Farley had hinted, it’s a GT3 race car for the street. However, it packs technology that is banned under the regulations.

The Mustang GTD gets a semi-active suspension that can adjust the spring rates and ride height. It uses a pushrod setup at the front and a transaxle at the back. The air scoops on the sides are there to cool the transaxle and hydraulics.

It also comes with active aerodynamics. The package includes hydraulically controlled front flaps and an active rear spoiler. Besides this, the overall design of the Mustang GTD is quite distinct, featuring a front splitter, massive louvres on the fenders, extractor vents on the hood, door sills, a rear diffuser and a carbon undertray.

At the heart of the Mustang GTD is a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine that makes more than 800 hp, with the redline set over 7500 rpm. The engine is mated with an 8-speed dual-clutch that is mounted at the back for a near 50:50 weight distribution. It also features a carbon fibre driveshaft.

Customers interested in acquiring a Mustang GTD will have to go through an application process similar to that of the Ford GT. Prices will start at around $300,000.
