First 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray sold for US$ 1.15 million
The series production of the much anticipated 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray is yet to commence. However, the American carmaker has just concluded the auction for the first retail unit. All proceeds of the amount will be donated.
Auction for VIN number 001 of Corvette E-Ray
General Motors has partnered with DonorsChoose for the proceeds of the auction. The amount generated will help fight inequality in school by giving resources to underserved communities that will help the recipients get quality education. The amount generated by the auction will help both students and teachers across the United States.
While the production of the car has not yet commenced, the winning bidder will be able to choose a configuration of their liking. Currently, the carmaker has brought in a per-production model finished in a blue shade for the purposes of this auction.
NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick’s bid for the car at US$ 1.5 million is the highest. Hence, at hammer down, the owner of the Hendrick Motorsports managed to secure the VIN no 001. This is not the first time that Hendrick has secured the first VIN of a production model. The Corvette E-Ray joins other VIN 001 in the Hendrick’s garage.

The Corvette E-Ray brings in a lot of firsts for this Chevrolet brand. The E-Ray is the first Corvette to come with a hybrid powertrain. This includes the 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 motor with an electric motor. The total output of the system is claimed to be 665 HP. Additionally, E-Ray will also boast an all-wheel-drive system. This feature is also a new addition for the Corvette brand. The 0-60 mph time is claimed to be 2.5 seconds.
Not to mention, the motor mounted at the front is rated at 160 HP and is capable to making the Corvette E-Ray into a front wheel drive vehicle for short periods.

The 2024 Corvette E-Ray is expected to reach dealerships later this year. The car’s suggested retail price starts at a little over US$ 100,000, not including destination fees. According to many, the most value for money version of the hybrid Corvette is the one retailing at US$ 102,900.
