Ferrari 296 Versione Speciale spied up close; looks production ready

A prototype of the Ferrari 296 VS (Versione Speciale) was recently spotted in Maranello, sporting what seemed like pre-production bodywork. @varryx_, who brought us the amazing video, has shared a few images that reveal the new model in more detail.

First up, the Ferrari 296 VS prototype appears to have a Giallo Modena exterior. The overall shape of the car looks familiar, but rumors suggest that it might borrow a few design cues from the F80 hypercar.

The front end does look flatter than before, and it might get horizontal headlamps. The vents on the sides could be tweaked as well. The rear section also has a familiar design but could feature new tail lamp units, while the central exhaust will be carried over unchanged.

The Ferrari 296 VS will not only feature styling updates but is also expected to get a few mechanical enhancements. It is also expected to be lighter than the outgoing model. Powering the 296 VS will be a tuned 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6. This engine develops 819 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque in its current configuration.
