Ferrari 296 GTB ‘Versione Speciale’ spied for the first time!

Ferrari seems to be working on a sportier version of its entry-level hybrid supercar, the 296 GTB. An early prototype of what appears to be the Ferrari 296 GTB ‘Versione Speciale’ was recently spotted testing in Maranello.

The spy images reveal a heavily camouflaged test mule. As you can see, Ferrari has gone to great lengths to hide the 296 GTB VS from prying eyes. The prototype is covered in fake body panels, making it impossible to guess the final design of the car.

Little is known about the Ferrari 296 GTB Versione Speciale at this point in time. However, we can expect a sharper suspension setup along with a modified aero package for improved overall downforce.

The engine is likely to be the same 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine paired with a hybrid system. It could be tuned to deliver a slightly higher output compared to the standard 296 GTB. In its current form, this hybrid powertrain develops 819 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque.
