Ferrari 296 GTB facelift test mule spied-1

Ferrari 296 GTB facelift spied in Maranello looking hideous

A heavily camouflaged test mule of a new Ferrari has been spotted in Maranello. We think that it could be the 296 VS  (Versione Speciale), i.e. the 296 GTB facelift.

Ferrari has gone to great lengths to hide this early prototype from prying eyes. Not only is it covered in the usual psychedelic wrap, but it also has faux body panels. Ferrari hasn’t made any attempts to make it look even half-decent. The test mule looks horrendous and would catch the attention of spy photographers just because of that.

The Ferrari 296 GTB facelift is expected to receive incremental updates. These might include a sharper suspension setup along with a modified aero package for improved overall downforce.

The engine is likely to be the same 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine paired with a hybrid system. It could be tuned to deliver a slightly higher output compared to the standard 296 GTB. In its current form, this hybrid powertrain develops 819 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque.
