Ferrari 275 GTB: The ’60s coupe that Inspired the Ferrari Roma
At first glance, the Ferrari Roma looks less dramatic compared other models in the brand’s line up. But, that’s not a bad thing.
One expects a Ferrari to be aggressive and loud, both in terms of its performance and design. However, the new Roma is unlike any other modern Ferrari. It has no crazy aero appendages nor does it have prominent vents and ducts. Ferrari designers have given the Roma a smooth exterior with clean lines and curved surfaces. And, the inspiration for this comes from cars such as the 275 GTB.
The Roma’s design bears a striking resemblance to the Ferrari 275 GTB. No wonder, this video featuring a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB 6 ‘Short Nose’ caught our attention.
The 275 GTB is one of most beautiful Ferraris ever made. Just see how similar both cars look in side profile. Classic 2-door coupe proportions with a long hood and flared wheel arches – just perfect! At the front, the Roma has a low slung grille just like the 275 GTB. The rear fascia of the 275 has also been replicated in a more modern fashion.
The 275 GTB 6 ‘Short Nose’ uses a 3.3-liter V12 engine that is fed by six carburetors. Hence the name – GTB 6. Its modern incarnation comes with a 3.9-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 motor that develops 611 hp and 561 lb-ft of torque and is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Ferrari Roma will compete with sports coupes like the Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT S, etc.
