Exclusive! The new Bugatti will still use the W16 and be a Roadster
It seems like ages since we last shared an inside scoop on Bugatti. That being said, we now have an exciting bit of information to share with you.
Bugatti has lined-up a new model for this year, and it’s something none of us here had expected. They are finally building an open-top Bugatti Roadster!
The upcoming Bugatti Roadster (not the final name) will be the first roofless model based on the Chiron platform. From what we understand, this platform was never designed with an open-top model in mind. This means, the wizards at Molsheim must’ve spent numerous sleepless nights modifying the existing architecture while maintaining the optimal torsional rigidity. It must’ve been a massive and expensive project, indeed.
According to insiders, the Bugatti Roadster will use the ‘Thor’ engine – the most potent one in the brand’s arsenal. That’s same 1600 hp 8.0-liter W16 motor that powers the Chiron Super Sport and the Centodieci.
Like I said, modifying an existing platform of such a low volume hypercar isn’t easy. Bugatti will have to sell sufficient number of cars to recoup the investment. Which is why, we weren’t surprised when our sources revealed the Bugatti Roadster production numbers. If our information is correct, Bugatti will build 99 Roadsters in total.
That’s all we have for now. But, this is a developing story, and we will be back with more information soon. So stay tuned!
