Exclusive! McLaren W1 hypercar engine specs & top speed
Earlier today, McLaren announced the name of its next-generation hypercar. The McLaren W1 is the replacement for the P1 and builds on to the legacy of the legendary McLaren F1. Ahead of its public reveal scheduled for October 6, the car was showcased at a private event held in London.
According to our sources, the McLaren W1 is powered by an all-new high-revving V8 engine, which is paired with a Formula 1-derived hybrid system. It is said to have a combined output of 1218 ps or 1201 hp. The engine generates 1340 Nm or 988 lb-ft of torque, which enables the W1 to reach a top speed of 217 mph.
We have also heard that the P1 successor will use cutting-edge technologies like 3D printing and will feature butterfly doors.
While McLaren is yet to announce the number of W1s it plans to build, rumors suggest that the production could be capped at 399 units. Sources also tell us that the W1 is likely to be offered with a base price of £2 million, which is about $2.6 million.
