Enzo designer showcases a Maserati MC20-based speedster at Villa d’Este
Ken Okuyama, the Japanese designer behind the legendary Ferrari Enzo, recently unveiled his latest creation at Villa d’Este. The new coach-built special edition is called the Kode61 Birdcage.
The Birdcage is said to be inspired by the Maserati Tipo 51 race car from the 1960s. It seems to be based on a Maserati MC20 chassis, which has been transformed into an open-top speedster.
The Birdcage looks almost like the Mach Five from the anime series Speed Racer. It has sharp lines, a pointy front and rear section, butterfly doors and a retro-styled cockpit with lightweight carbon fibre seats.
Okuyama hasn’t revealed any details of the Birdcage yet. However, given its similarities with the MC20 Cielo, we can expect it to be powered by the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6. It packs 621 hp @ 7500 rpm and 538 lb-ft of torque at 3000 rpm and comes paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
