Drag Race: Porsche 911 Turbo S takes on a McLaren 720S
The 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S is designed to be a fast, comfortable GT. But, since it is pretty quick on paper, it would be interesting to see how it fares against a McLaren 720S in a drag race.
The 992 generation of the Turbo S is the most powerful 911 Turbo model ever. It is powered by a 3.8-liter, twin-turbo flat-6 engine which now produces 640 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission which sends power to all four wheels.
The McLaren 720S is a proper supercar that packs more power and is lighter than the Porsche. It uses a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 710 hp of power and 568 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. While the Brit has the weight advantage, the German has better traction.
Despite being heavier and lacking some horsepower, the Porsche crosses the quarter mile in 10.1 seconds. The McLaren took 10.4 seconds to reach the same distance. Porsche also wins the braking test. However, the 720S excels is in the rolling race.
