Did a $1.2 million Rimac Concept_One EV cause the Naples dealership fire?
Last week, there were reports of a fire at Naples Motorsports, a supercar dealership in Florida. From the images that were shared on the internet, it appeared that the cause of the fire could be a supercar sitting in the parking lot. Most media reports, including us, believed that it was a McLaren 570GT that may have started the fire.
A reader reached out to us to share his thoughts on the incident. Having done a thorough analysis of the images, he found that the supercar that burnt to the ground was not a 570GT. It was, in fact, a rarer and more expensive Rimac Concept_One.
It does make sense, as the Concept_One is an electric car, and EVs are notorious for catching fire. Although studies have shown that EVs are not more susceptible to catching fire than ICE vehicles, there have been instances where a fire, which started in an EV, spread through an entire ship, damaging brand-new cars.
We think he is absolutely bang-on with his analysis, and here’s why. The car that was completely gutted is most certainly where the fire started. As you can see, it’s a low-slung exotic, and if you observe the wheels closely, they resemble those on the Rimac Concept_One. Also, there have been reports of a Florida dealer offering this car for $1.6 million. It means that there has been at least one of these cars in the state.

That being said, the Naples Fire Department has yet to publish its report. It should give us a clearer picture of what exactly transpired. The report is also likely to contain the make and model of the vehicle that caused the fire.
