Czinger 21C beats Koenigsegg Jesko’s Laguna Seca lap record by a whisker
Last month, the Koenigsegg Jesko set a new lap record at the Laguna Seca racetrack in California. The hypercar lapped the circuit in 1 min 24.86 seconds, beating the previous best time set by the Czinger 21C.
A couple of weeks have passed since the record was broken and the US-based hypercar maker has already reclaimed the crown. The Czinger 21C was back at Laguna Seca recently with the sole aim of beating the Jesko’s time, and that’s exactly what it achieved – just.
The Czinger 21C did set the new fastest time for production cars but by only a whisker. It completed a lap of the 2.2 miles circuit in 1 min 24.75 seconds, just 0.11 seconds quicker than the Jesko. That being said, it did improve on its previous best by 0.69 seconds.
Unlike the Jesko, the Czinger 21C is a hybrid. It is powered by a mid-mounted, 2.88-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine coupled with an 800 V electric drive. The electric motor drives the front wheels, while the petrol engine powers the rear axle. The combined output is a meaty 1350 hp.
Earlier this year, Kevin Czinger, founder of Czinger Vehicles, had stated that his company would be challenging the records set by Bugatti and Koenigsegg.
