C8 Corvette Z06 Decimates Shelby Mustang GT500 on track
Today we have an interesting comparison – on one hand we have the Shelby Mustang GT500, while on the other, there’s the C8 Corvette Z06. Both these are great in their own right, and must say, have a good fan following, but didn’t we always wanted to compare them on a track? And no, the Shelby Mustang is the regular version, and not the monster ‘King of the Road’ GT500KR.
This is just what Youtuber Speed Phenom has done. The young lad has taken both these cars on a racetrack and put them through their paces. Now, both of these are American muscle and that’s where the differences end.
Coming to the power outputs, the Ford comes out on top thanks to its 5.2-liter supercharged motor. This unit belts out 760 HP and 625 lb-ft of torque. A 7-speed dual clutch gearbox sends all this power to the rear wheels.
In comparison, the Corvette appears much tamer. The 5.5-liter V8 delivers just 670 HP and 460 lb-ft of torque. An 8-speed dual clutch gearbox handles all this power.
After going through a warm up lap, the hot lap is where the YouTuber pushed the car all the way. Speed Phenom has presented us a side by side view of both the cars going around the same circuit. Surprisingly, the Corvette Z06 was 3.5 seconds faster than the Shelby Mustang GT500.
However, it must be noted that the Corvette is much lighter than the Shelby and was equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, which are little better than the Ford’s Pilot Sport Cup 2.
