BMW Vision Driving Experience prototype leaked; Previews next M3
The BMW Vision Driving Experience (VDX) prototype has leaked ahead of its official reveal. BMW has described it as a “test rig” for its Neue Klasse sedans, including the next-gen M3.
Although camouflaged, the BMW VDX prototype showcases the radical new design philosophy adopted by the company, first seen on the Neue Klasse Vision Concept sedan. The vertical kidney grille has been replaced with a slimmer unit that spans the entire front fascia. The classic angel lights make way for twin LED light bars. We quite like the new look.
The rear fascia looks a bit odd, though, with taillights positioned along the top edge of the boot lid and an unconventional-looking bumper with large ducts.
The interior design is also based on the Vision Neue Klasse concept car and is unlike any other production BMW we’ve seen before. It features a large, floating touchscreen in the centre and a slim display that wraps around the cockpit. The steering wheel also has an odd shape.
The next-gen BMW M3 will be one of the first cars to be based on the Neue Klasse design. It will be offered with conventional ICE and electric powertrains. The electric version could be powered by four electric motors with a combined output of over 1300 hp.
