BMW M2 sets new Nurburgring lap record in the compact class

The BMW M2 has just set a new Nurburgring lap record. The coupe posted a time of 7 min 38.706 seconds, making it the fastest in the compact class.

The car was piloted by Jörg Weidinger, Development engineer general setup BMW M. He took two laps to acquaint himself with the conditions and then went for the hot lap on his third attempt.

The second-generation BMW M2 made its debut last year. It shares its engine with the M4. The 3.0-liter, 6-cylinder unit puts out 453 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque.l It allows the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds, while top speed is limited to 177 mph if you opt for the M Driver’s Package.
