BMW i8 spotted in Mumbai. Launches next month

BMW was the largest premium car maker in the north American market in 2014. A growth which was fueled by multiple new product launches, the company would be keen on keeping up the pace in upcoming year as well. Last year, BMW launched the M3 sedan and M4 coupe, 2 Series convertible, etc. That said, India is among the largest markets for BMW cars and this year the German brand is set to introduce the hybrid i8 sports car.

The official launch of the BMW i8 in India is expected next month along with pricing and other details. It will be the new halo car for BMW in India. Now, ahead of the official launch, our friends at Shifting-gears.com were able to sneak up on a BMW i8 parked at dealership in Mumbai.

We are all familiar with the technical aspects of the car. Still, to give you a low down on the futuristic i8 coupe here are some of the highlights. A 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines sits in the middle of the aluminum ‘Drive module’. On top of it is the ‘Life module’ comprising of a stylish cabin which is mostly made out of recycled materials.

An electric motor drives the front axle with the batteries that power it taking up space under the center console which along with the engine generates 362 hp and 420 lb-ft. The i8 is a hybrid sports car that can reach speeds up to 155 mph and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.4 sec.
