BMW i5 leaked ahead of debut; previews the next-gen M5

The first image of the upcoming BMW i5 has leaked online. As you may have guessed, the i5 is the all-electric version of the new 5 Series. It also gives us an idea of what the next-gen BMW M5 will look like.

The BMW i5 featured in this image doesn’t look as polarizing as most modern BMWs. Although the front grille appears to have grown in size, the overall design is fairly restrained. The car has an aggressive air damn with large vents on either side, which suggests that this could be the M version. It has a clean side profile with fewer lines and BMW’s new door handles.

Now, the upcoming BMW M5 is also expected to feature a similar design, albeit more aggressive. The car will be wider than the standard 5 Series, with flared wheel arches, a muscular bonnet and quad exhausts at the rear.

The BMW M5 is rumored to get a 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 plug-in hybrid similar to the BMW XM. In its most potent form, this engine develops up to 735 hp and 735 lb-ft of torque.
