Aston Martin Vantage F1 Safety Car crashed at Monza

The Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition, the official Formula 1 Safety Car for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, has crashed.

According to media reports, the Aston Martin F1 Safety Car crashed during what is described as a “regular high-speed safety car test”. Bernd Maylander was at the wheel when it crashed at the famous Parabolica, which is a long right-hand curve that opens onto the main start/finish straight.

The exact sequence of events leading up to the crash is unknown, but reports suggest that Maylander was on a “quick lap.” Fortunately, both Maylander and his co-driver escaped unscathed.

The modified Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition has a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine under the hood. It produces 656 hp, which is sent to the rear axle.
