ABT XGT: Street-legal Audi R8 GT2 race car to debut next week

ABS Sportsline is all set to give the Audi R8 a big send-off with a special model. It is called the ABT XGT, and it will be the most hardcore R8 road car ever made. The car will be unveiled on November 23, 2023.

The ABT XGT is said to be based on the R8 GT2 and has been developed by the Audi Scherer Sport group in collaboration with ABT Sportsline. If you ever wished for a street-legal R8 race car, then this would be it.

The ABT XGT is expected to be powered by a 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine that could be tuned for more performance. Rumours suggest it could make around 650 hp. Most of the suspension is also likely to be carried over from the race car but is likely to be tweaked to make it more manageable on public roads.

Spy images suggest that ABT XGT will share most of its bodywork with the R8 LMS GT2. This includes a low-slung front end with an aggressive splitter, a large roof scoop and a fixed wing at the back. We can also expect it to get a race-ready cabin replete with a roll cage and other safety systems.
