Porsche recalls 1,851 sports cars as their wheels might fall off
Porsche has recalled 1,851 sports cars sold in the American market over a potential issue with the bolts used on centre lock wheels. The carmaker has also issued a stop-use advisory to all dealers and customers.
The Porsche 911, 718 Cayman GT4 RS and 718 Spyder RS models manufactured between September 2023 and December 2023 have been affected by this recall.
The recall was announced after reports of centre lock fractures on certain cars. A preliminary investigation revealed that the bolts may not have been constructed to specification and could fracture.
Porsche offers centre lock wheels on some of its high-end sports cars. This motorsport-derived design has several advantages over regular multi-lug wheels. According to Porsche, the centre lock wheels have a lower rotating mass. However, a special tool is required to remove and install the wheels.
